QUADRICENTENNIAL ALTAR

Papal Visit to Manila, 1995 (PICC Complex)

The three sided pyramid roof of this altar was designed to represent the three regions of the Philippines, namely Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Used to celebrate World Youth Day, the altar stands majestically in the field. The pyramid also acts as a dome that marks the holy presence of Pope John Paul II. It takes the form and proportions of the Ifugao house but transformed and stylized to evoke a whole new meaning. All materials used were indigenous and picked to represent Filipino culture and traditions in this celebration.
